BBDO shops Colenso (NZ) and Clemenger (Melbourne) have the most finalists going into the APAC Effies award show in Singapore on Friday 21 April.

The Melbourne agency has 13 finalists; Colenso has 11. The BBDO network dominates the list with 45 of the 138 finalists, while Ogilvy & Mather and MullenLowe follow with 27 and 15 entries respectively, then come TBWA, McCann Worldgroup, Grey Group and independent agencies Medulla Communications and Affinity.

Also successfully making it through were TBWA\ NZ (ANZ Bank), Barnes Catmur & Friends Dentsu (2 x Heart Foundation),

Colenso’s finalists included work for DB Brewtroleum (3), BNZ, Burger King (2), Amnesty (3), and Fonterra (1), and O&M NZ (1).

The finalist list was determined after two rounds of judging from entries submitted across the region. Thirteen countries have finalists with the highest number of entries from Australia, India and New Zealand.

The judging panel included Kiwi Ross Jackson from the Bank of NZ. The others were Anthony Wong of Ogilvy & Mather Group (chair), Ashish Bhasin of Dentsu Aegis, Ike Kwon of Kia Motors, Jean-Paul Burge from BBDO Asia, Kitty Lun of Facebook, Nicole McMillan of The Wrigley Company, together with 150 advertising professionals and marketers in Asia Pacific.

The second round of judging held last week brought together 60 judges to Singapore over three days. The judging round saw robust and stimulating discussions in every panel to deliberate on the entries which stood out among the rest.

“It is inspiring to see the quality of the work getting better each year,” said Wong. “The jury had a crucial and difficult task in selecting the best work that represents the finest in the Asia Pacific region and gives brands a steer on what the future of effective advertising looks like.”

Winners will be announced at the Four Seasons Hotel, Singapore.
