Deaths leave big production hole

AUCKLAND, Today: The production business in New Zealand is in recovery mode following the recent deaths of two experienced figures – producer Penny Cooper and production manager Debbie Sinton.

Over the past 25 years, Cooper and Sinton each collaborated with nearly every agency and production house in the country – and many from overseas.

Cooper established The Coopers on Franklin Road with partner Jon, and Sinton, an independent, also worked alongside partner DOP Chris White on projects for Whitelight.

The sudden death of Sinton on Monday will leave a “big hole” according Sioux Macdonald, managing director of Auckland-based crew agency Filmcrews.

“Deb was the go-to PM for production houses in New Zealand and her hard-arsed professional approach and ability to deliver against time-frame and budget is legendary. The industry owes her a huge debt of gratitude as she instilled her production values in all that she worked with.”
