Diamond in the rough

Tonight DDB ceo Justin Mowday will sleep out on the mean streets of Auckland to help raise money for those who are homeless and sleep out every night.

Mowday’s target is to raise $3000 – when M+AD checked the website (scroll down), he’d already reached $2810.

“It’s a great cause, and it’s an embarrassment that people in our city have no shelter in the middle of winter, so let’s try and do something about it,” he said.

Mowday will be stripped of creature comforts, exposed to the elements and given insight into what it means to sleep rough. With only a sleeping bag and a piece of cardboard for bedding he will be joined by other influential Kiwis as he takes a public stand for Auckland’s homeless population at the annual Lifewise Big Sleepout.

Every dollar raised will be directly applied to Lifewise’s no-band-aids approach to homelessness.

“So before I bed down on a slab of concrete I’d love to ask if you might sponsor me,” the poor bloke says, checking tonight’s rain forecast with just a hint of desperation in his voice. “Please back me and please back this worthy cause.”
