AUCKLAND, Tuesday: Yellow NZ has won a national award for embracing diversity and inclusion as the cornerstone of its transition strategy as it moved from providing the iconic Yellow Pages into being a digital marketing agency.

The company took out the Emerging Diversity & Inclusion category at the 2019 Diversity Awards NZ after demonstrating the importance of having an inclusive culture to unlock innovation in a disrupted business environment.

Judging convener Neil Porteous says Yellow NZ’s comprehensive programme over 12 months was an excellent blueprint for any organisation beginning its diversity and inclusion journey.

MediaWorks picked up the Positive Inclusion Award

It included a formal commitment to diversity and inclusion on the company’s website, cultural intelligence training for the leadership team, the creation of a diversity and inclusion committee and a survey of all staff to give the broader organisation an ability to have a voice in the ongoing changes.

Yellow also launched its Parallel Project, committing to only employing women until a 50:50 gender split amongst senior employees has been achieved.

It also provided unconscious bias training for all its people.

Other winners included Vector (the Supreme Award), Air NZ (for Cultural Celebration), and MediaWorks (Positive Inclusion Award).
