AUCKLAND, Today: Potato chip enthusiasts “should prepare for an epic flavour fusion”, with the Kiwi rock radio legends at Radio Hauraki teaming up with Heartland Potato Chips to create two tasty new chip flavours, hitting supermarket shelves today.
Radio Hauraki Ultimate Wave Chips launch today in flavours Garlic Bread and Korean Fried Chicken – a tasty salute to Kiwi Backbone – Radio Hauraki’s catchphrase that celebrates the gutsy efforts of Kiwis.
Radio Hauraki promotions director Kate Britten said: “Each chip has the highest possible ridges – a glorious reminder of the Southern Alps, the true Backbone of New Zealand.
“We’re all about delivering you killer tunes and now we’ve got a chip that’s as rock-solid as the music we play.
“As the country’s only 100% Kiwi-owned potato chip company the team have absolute faith that there’s no chip out there that better embodies the spirit of Radio Hauraki.”
“Each chip has the highest possible ridges – a glorious reminder of the Southern Alps, the true Backbone of New Zealand.”
“Radio Hauraki is no stranger to the term ‘Kiwi Backbone’, starting out in 1966 as a group of pirate radio pioneers unable to obtain a radio license, the crew set sail off the coast of the Hauraki Gulf, operating the first private commercial radio station.
“Fast forward almost 60 years later and the station’s current hosts are still all about celebrating those who put the ‘oomph’ into our awesome little country.
Heartland Potato Chips commercial manager Kyle Miller said: “Both brands have risen above challenges and are much loved by Kiwis across the country.
The Hauraki journey
“Our journey echoes the spirit of Radio Hauraki’s beginnings. Back in the ’60s, few believed a pirate radio station would thrive against the odds.
“Similarly, when foreign owners closed our local chip factory in 2009, Raymond Bowan, a brave South Canterbury potato farmer said, “I can make a better chip”, not many took him seriously.
“We’re beyond excited to craft the Backbone chip with Radio Hauraki, a heartfelt nod to the true-blue Kiwis who tackle life head-on.”
“Potato chip fans can also win big by uploading a snapshot with their bag of Radio Hauraki Ultimate Wave Chips to go in the draw to win $5000 in cash.”
