Marked men

AUCKLAND, Today: MediaWorks has challenged M+AD’s assertion that Radio Hauraki is New Zealand’s number one music station with males.

MediaWorks senior comms manager Karina Healy writes: “Are you able to tell me where that information has come from?

“I couldn’t see a source on it and based on the GFK radio survey results (which is the most up-to-date measure of anything to do with radio performance), it’s actually The Rock that is the most popular station with males (based on cume audience 000s) or if it’s based on % share, it would also be The Rock. Certainly not Hauraki on either fronts.

“We didn’t supply a source – because the source (dodgy) was us!”

“There are really strong guidelines around these results and how they are reported so I’m really interested to know where this misinformation has come from – particularly without it being sourced appropriately.”

Ed David Gapes responds: Yeah! You’ve probably got us on this one, Karina. We didn’t supply a source – because the source was me, with no data to back me up.

“I was impressed by Hauraki’s cool Silent Treatment campaign, and just acting on gut feeling. So our apologies if we miscounted.

Biased!
“Gotta say, though, I’m a male – and Hauraki has always been my own favourite rock station. So I do admit to some unconscious bias!”
