WELLINGTON, Yesterday: Hemisphere, a Wellington-based agency, unveils vibrant branding for the 2024 Wellington Pride Parade. This collaboration celebrates the city’s spirit, inclusivity, and Māori heritage.
The new tohu (logo) reflects Wellington’s identity and Māori culture, symbolizing unity and pride. It resonates deeply with the rainbow community.
Dr Tim Antric of Hemisphere, part of the rainbow community, sees the project as a chance to celebrate identity. “Te Whanganui-a-Tara has always been a beacon of support and acceptance for our rainbow whānau. When we were approached to contribute to the revival of the Wellington Pride Parade, we saw it as a golden opportunity to celebrate our collective and individual identities. It’s a project that’s very close to our hearts.”
The design incorporates elements like wind and water, linking to Wellington’s landmarks. The bucket fountain symbolizes the rainbow community’s diversity.
“Our tohu encapsulates Wellington Pride Parade’s core values. It’s a testament to the spirit of manaakitanga we extend to everyone.”
Water’s significance, as highlighted by Tim, aligns with the parade’s goal of unity. “Water is the life giver of all things, and just as it connects all of us to our origins, the Pride Parade connects us to each other.”
The logo features welcoming arms, colourful water streams, and a koru, indicating community growth. It represents the bond between human and divine.
“Our tohu encapsulates Wellington Pride Parade’s core values. It’s a testament to the spirit of manaakitanga we extend to everyone,” says Tim.
Hemisphere invites all to the 2024 parade, celebrating the rainbow community’s spirit.
