AUCKLAND, Today: Dentsu Aegis Network and NZME have partnered to integrate live Covid-19 reporting into the New Zealand Herald website.

DAN is powering interactive, real-time Covid charts and graphs within Herald articles.

Based on a live, global database assembled from multiple sources, the charts enable real-time comparisons between New Zealand and hundreds of countries around the world.

Metrics include percentage of population infected & tested, percentage of deaths and live vs recovered cases.

Dentsu NZ products/partners/platforms GM Richard Pook said: “It’s been a true team effort between Chris Knox [the Head of data journalism at the Herald], and the Dentsu data team, led by Bram Stevens.

“They might look simple but these data visualisations were extremely complex to build.”

“Both team have done an incredible job turning this around in record time. They might look simple but these data visualisations were extremely complex to build.”

Denrsu data & technology director Bram Stevens said: “ I’m really proud to see my team’s skills and expertise in data engineering, data visualisation and data science being put to use on this innovative project.”

NZME chief revenue officer Paul Hancox said: “This is a great example of how the media industry can collaborate in new and exciting ways, even in challenging times like these.

“The NZ Herald will use these graphs in numerous Covid-19 articles and pages over the next few weeks to keep Kiwis in the know.”
