DDB’s PR arm Mango has helped Christchurch-based K9 Natural dogfood – in partnership with Auckland premium restaurant company Hipgroup – to launch a new promotion labelled Bone Appetit.

“Aucklanders love their coffee just about as much as they love their dogs,” reads the release from Mango. “Now the two are coming together in a collaboration between the city’s most popular café group and a natural New Zealand dog food company.”

Starting on Saturday 30 July 30 and running for four weekends, a special canine menu will allow café patrons to indulge their four legged friends with a healthy treat.

The free doggy menu will be offered all day Saturday and Sunday at the group’s Kohi Beach and Takapuna Beach Cafés.

K9 Natural ceo Neil Hinton says that while the doggy menu is “a bit of fun”, he hopes it will get dog owners thinking about the type and quality of food they feed their pets.

“We are all making better nutrition choices for ourselves, but our dogs are still getting highly processed, carb-laden foods, that are adding to a lot of the common health issues they have.”

“Bone Appetit is all about getting dog owners to consider what they feed their dogs and show them that a healthy alternative is available.”

Served to canine companions at Bone Appetit will be K9 Natural’s Beef Feast, Lamb Feast and Lamb Green Tripe Toppers.

“Toppers, like all good food, uses quality ingredients such as free range meat, green lipped mussels and eggs from cage free hens, all sourced from and made in New Zealand,” says Hinton.

Andrew Brown, head of marketing & media for Hipgroup, says the Bone Appetit promotion is an opportunity to thank the many pets of its customers who patiently wait while their owners enjoy a long brunch or lunch.

“Hipgroup has long looked after our customers’ canine companions with bowls of water outside our cafes, so this will certainly be a leap in to the world of fine dining for all of our four-legged friends,” he said.

“Bone Appetit’s K9 range is made in New Zealand using locally sourced ingredients, which is something that ties in nicely with our own food philosophy.”

“Bone Appetit starts on July 30 and runs all day Saturday and Sunday until August 21. Kohi Beach Café is open from 7am until 4pm. The Takapuna Beach Café is open from 6:30am until 6pm.
