PARIS, Sunday: JCDecaux has joined RE100, a global initiative for companies committed to 100% renewable electricity. Company chief Steve O’Connor says the move underlines their objective of sourcing 100% of its electricity consumption from renewable electricity by 2022.

“The group began buying green electricity as part of an ambitious policy rolled out in 2014,” O’Connor said. “In 2018, it was already meeting 69% of its electricity needs with renewable electricity compared with 37% in 2015.”

The RE100 initiative was established by UK not-for-profit The Climate Group, in partnership with CDP (another not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to study the implications of climate change for the world’s principal publicly traded companies).

RE100 encourages businesses to work together, foster the exchange of best practices and create a new momentum driven by the leaders in each sector, with the aim of substantially increasing demand from businesses for renewable energies and to limit carbon emissions.
