Aotearoa’s haka – the focus of Flying Fish’s Sky UK Lions TV promo, a project commissioned specifically for UK & Irish viewing audiences and released only abroad – has triggered a tweet explosion from excited Lions fans at home.

When M+AD checked, there were thousands of tweets about the “awesome” promo – 99% of them exuding hunger for the game, and admiration for the passion of the haka.

“Sky Sports UK came to us with a roar of a task,” says Fish executive producer Sam Attenborough.

“We were up for the challenge, so we packed our bags and set out across country to shoot a real lion and a Maori warrior facing off against each other on a mountain peak.

“We wanted to showcase all types of Kiwis performing the iconic war dance, formally [and informally] known as Ka Mate.

“From Rotorua Boys High, The NZ Fire Service Training Centre, and the sheet metal works … the haka ran deep in all of them.”
