The 2017 British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand received an additional boost today with the re-signing of a key sponsor.

Around 350,000 tickets are expected to go on sale for the NZ tour with carmaker Land Rover (a Y&R client) renewing its sponsorship and status as principal partner – supporting The Lions for a sixth time.

The company’s support of rugby stretches back to the South Africa 1997 tour, a previous tour of New Zealand in 2005 and the Australian 2013 tour.

Jaguar Land Rover NZ marketing manager James McKee says Land Rover has been at the heart of rugby – from the grassroots to the elite for over two decades, with the company currently supporting 1st XV rugby in New Zealand.

As principal partner and official vehicle of The British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand 2017, Land Rover vehicles will be used to help meet operational needs of The Lions.

“We share the same passion, resolve and integrity that sits within the core of the game,” McKee said. “It makes sense then that Land Rover sponsor The British & Irish Lions for a sixth time.

“With more than 300,000 tickets expected to be sold, New Zealand’s ability to host major sporting events will again receive global attention. Land Rover is proud to help contribute to the success of world class rugby fixtures hosted here.”

Along with their support of grassroots rugby in New Zealand, the brand has sponsored the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups.
