AUCKLAND, Saturday: M+AD ed David Gapes, and recently appointed deputy ed Scott Pryor, fought out the finals of the 2019 Ponsonby Masters snooker tournament, held at the National Snooker & Billiards Centre in Royal Oak. Pryor won.

Included in the line-up was Stranded in Paradise author John Dix (who organised it), rock’n’roll accountant Allan Rutledge, Ponsonby muso Wayne Baird, rock’n’roll records guru Terry Marston, and former Radio Hauraki news chief Dave McCombs.

But it turned into an all-M+AD final, with Pryor (a former international banker grounded globally by health issues) and Gapes going head-to-head for the title. Pryor sealed the frame only on the final ball.

Gapes’ performance throughout the tournament was “inspired”, said writer/director Poata Eruera.

Gapes had earlier dispatched five opponents to dominate the field. Pryor, however, had a similar run to the top and showed an extra dimension.

Impact on World Snooker rankings has yet to be determined by the game’s governing body World Snooker.
