AUCKLAND, Today: Macca’s NZ is celebrating its place in Kiwi communities by shining a light on the special connections locals have with their favourite restaurants.
While Macca’s has long embraced being local, DDB Aotearoa is taking it further—putting the focus on what matters most: the people. Since Macca’s restaurants are owned by Kiwis, for Kiwis, this campaign brings real customer stories to life.
The campaign kicks off with three tight-knit groups—a crew of Wellington surfers, five Parakai lifeguards, and diehard Phoenix fans—showcasing their unique Macca’s moments.
DDB Aotearoa’s Chief Creative Officer, Gary Steele, says the idea was to highlight Macca’s crews and how these different groups weave Macca’s into their everyday experiences.
“We wanted to document New Zealand from coast to coast and share with the country the New Zealand we see in our local communities,” he said.

“So far, six unique stories have been shot, with the plan to roll out more. These peoples’ stories are going to be celebrated in their local community – The Lyall Bay Surfers may get a billboard in Lyall Bay, for instance.”
Luke Rive, Director of Marketing at McDonald’s New Zealand, says the campaign showcases everyday Kiwis and their feel-good Macca’s rituals.
That’s how we Macca’s highlights the bonds that bring Kiwis together—whether it’s surfing, flatting, or work families. “It’s a snapshot of the role Macca’s plays in the lives of everyday New Zealanders, and we hope it prompts others to ask, ‘how do we Macca’s?’” he said.
“Because when you combine nuggies with your favourite humans, feel-good things happen.”
More Macca’s-loving groups set to feature include a trio of flatmates, a crew of women sparkies, and the Ruckus Armored Combat Guild.
