LONDON, Monday: eBay has named WPP’s MediaCom as its global media agency of record as it cuts tie with former incumbent Publicis.

MediaCom is already the online retailer’s media agency in Australia and Europe, while Publicis handled the business in North America.

Just what the ramification are in NZ remains unclear. Chris Riley, ceo of MediaCom NZ owner GroupM NZ, would say only that “we are in negotiations regarding New Zealand”.

“We are in negotiations regarding New Zealand.”

The global appointment comes after a closed review between MediaCom and its parent company WPP, and Publicis.

In a statement, an eBay spokesperson said: “Ebay’s regional marketing teams are working together more closely than ever, and consolidating our media business will help us operate more quickly and efficiently as a global organization.

“MediaCom has a long history with eBay, and we look forward to continuing our work with them around the world.”
