Meadow Mushrooms punnet labels are set for a summertime makeover with the mushroom producer announcing the winning labels from its recent crowd-sourcing design competition.

A New Zealand designer based in Manurewa, Sunita Ly, took out the competition and will have her kiwi-inspired designs showcased on all four Meadow Mushrooms pre-packed punnets this summer.

The competition invited designers and mushroom fans to share their take on the delicious super-food’s place in the Kiwi summer by creating the new Summer Inspiration labels.

Four crowd-sourced entries were selected by the Meadow Mushrooms team, and then it was the mushroom lovers’ chance to cast a final vote on social media. Ly’s designs were a clear favourite, with the Kiwi designer receiving 51% percent of the votes. Meadow Mushroom Facebook fans also voted online. One described it as “a great idea to ask for your customers’ opinions in helping you choose.”

“The winning pack designs will be available in leading supermarkets around the country in November.”

Next season the four pre-packed mushroom varieties will display a colourful summer-themed palette, with kiwi icons and native elements making them easy to spot.

Meadow Mushrooms created the Summer Inspiration themes following feedback from its passionate mushroom-loving community, who told the Christchurch-based family-owned brand which mushroom based dishes most inspired them when it comes to summer mealtimes.

The design competition was open to established or up-and-coming designers. The release, from Wright Communications, did not mention prizes (we did ask!).

Meadow Mushrooms ceo John Barnes said in the statement: “The business is always looking for innovative ways to unite those who are mad about mushrooms.

“We know the winning design will be well received around New Zealand because they were chosen by our customers.”
