SYDNEY, Wednesday: Australia has dumped the kangaroo, and chosen the yellow wattle as its new national logo – to the delight of comedy-loving Aussies, who believe it looks like the Coronavirus.

The logo shakeup was revealed this week by the Australia Nation Brand Advisory Council – but is already drawing universal criticism.

“It’s terrible! Bring back the kangaroo,” radio presenter Ben Fordham said during his show on Wednesday.

Liberal MP Mark Coure tweeted: “I can’t believe they have changed the Australian Made logo to look like this; it looks like a virus.

“It’s terrible! Bring back the kangaroo.”

“I will be writing to the council & the Trade Minister to reinstate the kangaroo!”

B&T editorialised: “We love our kangaroo — it is currently the most internationally recognised shortcut to Australia” (scroll down for the link).

In a statement, trade minister Simon Birmingham said the new logo is not the end of the kangaroo.

“Kangaroos will continue to be a key part of Australia’s marketing and logos from our Air Force to our tourism campaigns, our national airline and our sporting teams,” he said.
