NZ is ranked 14th most awarded country in the world by the Cannes Lions 2015 Global Creativity Report, released overnight. The result sees NZ slip three places– down from 11th last year.
The report incorporates the results from Cannes Lions, Lions Health and Lions Innovation in its rankings. The USA has held on to first place, while the UK has taken second place, knocking Brazil down to third. Australia was ranked #6, down from the #5 last year.
Countries that slid noticeably further down the rankings include Argentina and India, while great gains were seen from Spain which increased its points haul by 26% this year.
The top four most creative cities remain unchanged from 2014 with New York, London, São Paulo and Paris retaining their respective positions. Los Angeles have dropped from 5th place to 17th, while Chicago, which failed to rank in the top 20 last year, has ranked 6th in 2015. Sydney was ranked #9 (down from #8 last year) while Auckland was placed #19 (down from #15).
Colenso BBDO, Auckland was ranked #1 agency in the Asia-Pacific region, followed by M&C Saatchi, Sydney and Y&R Shanghai. GPY&R Melbourne was ranked #9, Leo Burnett Sydney at #15, J Walter Thompson, Sydney at #17 and GPY&R Brisbane at #19.
In the client listings, Procter & Gamble are ranked number one, followed by Samsung, Nike, Unilever and Burger King. Geico, Under Armour and Australia’s Optus all feature in the top 20 for the first time.
“With over 40,000 entries from 94 countries, Cannes Lions is a barometer of creativity globally,” said Lions Festivals ceo Philip Thomas.
