The owner of Phantom Billstickers has been publishing his quarterly Café Reader – 60-odd A5 pages of startlingly original writing (mainly shortish pieces by Kiwis, leavened with a sprinkling of NZ & American poetry) – since 2013. This project is a true labour of love; there ain’t a cent in it!

A regional newspaper was the surprise champion announced Friday at the Canon Media Awards in Wellington. The Waikato Times and its weekend edition were named Canon Newspaper of the Year, heading off larger metropolitan daily and weekend newspapers. Waikato Times also won Weekly Newspaper of the Year.

Pead PR’s Amanda Ingle has taken out the PR Rising Star award at the annual Bauer Media Best in Beauty Awards 2016 announced this week in Auckland.

Colenso (two), Saatchi, FCB and DDB all won Yellow Pencils at D&AD on Friday – rounding out NZ’s record-making tally of 10 Yellow Pencils – including Y&R’s whopping six Yellows, all for BK McWhopper (see M+AD Friday here).

Y&R NZ was crowned the Most Awarded Advertising Agency in London overnight at D&AD 2016 (beating out Droga5 and AMVBBDO) with 10 Pencils – including six Yellow Pencils for its work with Burger King on the McWhopper campaign. Burger King was Most Awarded Client. New Zealand finished the show in equal-fifth position with Brazil (30 Pencils).

Y&R New Zealand’s McWhopper integrated campaign – a #1 hit at D&AD (held the same night on the other side of the world) – was centre stage again last night, earning one of the two Best of Show awards at the New York Festivals International Advertising Awards. Y&R shared the stage with Colenso BBDO/Proximity, whose celebrated DB Breweries Brewtroleum campaign scored a Grand Prize in the Activation & Engagement category.
