Following Phantom Billstickers’ popular Poetry on Posters series, the most music-friendly ad medium in the country reckons it’s now time for New Zealand’s musicians to step into the spotlight.

To celebrate NZ Music Month, Phantom are releasing a set of commemorative posters featuring icons of the local music scene. Fifteen posters will be released during May 2017 and another 15 for each of the following three years, making a total of 60 posters in all.

Shot as a personal project by photographer Hayley Theyers with additions from Stuart Page, the photographs form an ongoing, collectable set of the personalities behind some of our most enduring music.

“Do yourself a favour – seek out their music.”

“Some of them are well-known characters while others are underground names whose work we believes should be heard by a larger audience,” says Phantom’s Roosje van der Werff.

“By putting their portraits on street posters we’re doing our bit to promote the faces behind New Zealand music.”

The first round of posters feature Bill Direen, Chris Knox, Chelsea Nikkel, Mike Weston, George Henderson, Peter Gutteridge, Bill Vosburgh, Matthew Bannister, Ronnie van Hout, Purple Pilgrims, Phil Judd, Hamish Kilgour, Murray Cammick, Trevor Reekie and Stefan Neville.

“Look out for this unique Phantom poster series on a wall near you during the month of May,” van der Werff says. “Photograph, collect, share and hashtag their images.

“Then do yourself a favour – seek out their music.
