Google doesn’t care about ‘pretty’: Queenstown public relations outfit Southern PR is teaming up with online marketing expert Fully Charged Media to hold an interactive SEO workshop in Queenstown on Wednesday 27 August.
The workshop aims to provide businesses with the tools to drastically improve website traffic and optimise search engine results to “stay ahead of the competition”.
Fully Charged Media founder Darren Craig, along with Southern PR’s Naomi Lindsay, will run the half-day workshop which is open to any business looking to improve their online presence and generate more business.
According to Craig (confirmed by much research) over 90% of search engine traffic goes to the websites listed on first page results on search engines like Google.
“There are hundreds of factors that decide where your website appears in this list,” he said. “Often websites don’t even have the basics covered as many techniques to improve your ranking are not visual or even on your own website.
“Developers have enough to keep up with on the technical stuff and most people design a website like it’s a brochure only thinking about the visuals, when in reality Google doesn’t really care if it’s pretty.”
“Without considering how the site’s going to be found by potential customers and factoring that in to a brief is like building a house without the right foundations and throwing money away. You have to know what to consider or you’ll tick the box then wonder why it’s not working months later.”
Naomi Lindsay said there were a number of contributing factors that affected SEO rankings including what you say about your company, how you say it and how often. “Darren will provide practical steps business owners and marketers can take right now to help their business and drive traffic to their website,” she said.
“I’ll focus on how businesses can generate content for websites and use the right language and tools to ensure you maintain and convey your brand messages at the same time as being fully optimised for search engines.”
Craig’s IT experience includes website creation and digital marketing, both in New Zealand and the UK. He is currently advising a number of businesses here and overseas on improving their online presence to achieve higher rankings and generate more revenue.
“After a recent online course with Fully Charged Media, one New York based hotelier booked 100 extra room nights within a month, and a local activity company went from page 13 to page 2 on search for some key search terms within weeks of a new website launch,” Craig says.
Southern PR has been working with New Zealand businesses for over 20 years, offering public relations, communications, marketing and social media advice and services to some of the world’s biggest tourism brands such as AJ Hackett Bungy, NZSki, Shotover Jet, Southern Discoveries, Ziptrek and Skyline.
“Creating vibrant copy for websites which is search engine friendly, inspiring and ‘on message’ is just one of the services we offer clients,” said Lindsay.
For more information about the course, see the Southern PR website or call the office on 03 441 1117 to reserve a space.
It costs $325+gst including light refreshments and will be held at Southern PR’s Queenstown officesfrom 8am to1pm.
