TVNZ ceo Kevin Kenrick has announced the appointment of Cate Slater as director of content and Andrew Shaw as deputy director of content.

Slater has a background in law and design and joined TVNZ in 2013. Previously she worked with IMG in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in various roles responsible for negotiating content rights, including the head of legal and business affairs for the Rugby World Cup.

She is currently TVNZ general manager content rights and legal counsel, and leads the TVNZ  Content Licensing business.

“We’re proud to promote proven talent from within the business,” Kenrick said.

Kid show veteran
Andrew Shaw is a former children’s TV host, and a long-standing executive at TVNZ. “Andrew’s wealth of experience in a career spanning all areas of content production, commissioning, acquisition and programming is unrivalled in the local industry,” Kenrick said.

“We know that our success in transforming TVNZ from a TV broadcaster to being New Zealand’s leading video service provider will be heavily dependent upon leadership.

“We’re confident that these new appointments will step-change our focus on viewer needs and lead the delivery of compelling content that’s enjoyed and valued by New Zealanders.”

Restructure
Slater and Shaw assume their new roles from mid-June and will work with outgoing director of content Jeff Latch before he departs at the end of June. The restructure and resignation of Latch was announced last month.
