Sons & Co take TRA site into ‘uncharted territory’

Christchurch web design studio Sons & Co have designed a new website for Britomart-based customer behaviour insights agency TRA.

TRA’s new-look website makes a leap into uncharted territory, says TRA managing director Andrew Lewis.

“TRA isn’t formulaic, so our website shouldn’t be either,” Lewis said. “A template-style website with the standard headings à la ‘who we are’ and ‘what we do’ no longer suited TRA’s position as disrupter in the New Zealand insights industry.

“Sons & Co worked their magic to create a website that is anything but standard, with striking design and usability rolled into one.

“We felt an immediate affinity with the Sons & Co team with our shared eagerness to approach things differently and think outside the box. We had seen some of their previous work and immediately recognised the alignment between our brand and their design aesthetic.”

Sons & Co co-founder Matt Arnold said: “We’re happiest – and do our best work – when we’re working with clients who have ambition. The more interested a client is in the ‘what if’ and the ‘why not’, the better.

“TRA have no desire to be average, nor straightforward, and if you look at their approach they mix science, design, pop culture and philosophy without skipping a beat.”

Shop window
Lewis said Sons & Co were tasked with creating a ‘shop window’ of TRA – at the same time, they say they wanted to build a knowledge hub that would become the key port of call for anyone interested in insights, behavioural economics, marketing and strategy.

“The final product far exceeded our expectations. Featuring one-off moving portraiture by New Zealand artist Richard Orjis, the new website is built around the notion that “We Know People”. Richard’s three portraits provide a unique look at the changing facial expressions, moods and thoughts of real people – people that are multilayered, not just a collection of needs but affected and influenced by other people and the wider cultural context.

“The arresting images are not just an eye-catching design feature. They speak directly to TRA’s focus on people.

“We love our new website. Sons & Co have done an outstanding job of capturing TRA’s ethos and mission and bringing it to life.”
