AUCKLAND, Today: The new FinTech startup Taxi, owned locally, has launched a bold campaign, urging Kiwi business owners to decline the bank.

Taxi leverages advanced technology to tap into pre-paid provisional tax, offering a more affordable funding solution compared to traditional big bank overdrafts. This innovative service is exclusive to tax-paying businesses based in New Zealand.

Nicola Taylor, co-founder of Taxi, emphasised the need for a strong brand and clear message to stand out. “We are on a mission with Taxi to change so much of how we think about business and business funding so we knew we needed to stand out and catch the attention of the businesses we will ultimately end up helping.

“Taxi offers a 7.09% rate, which is at least half the rate of most big bank overdrafts, so the ‘decline the bank’ message did exactly that,” says Nicola.

Taxi’s launch required careful preparation to ensure the numbers were straightforward and to build trust. This new funding model needed a clear explanation due to its novelty.

“We loved working with the team at Taxi on brand, naming, and visual identity. We hoped to reflect some of the positive energy.”

The Taxi brand was developed by Previously Unavailable and launched in partnership with Together and Pead. Simon Pound from Previously Unavailable shared his enthusiasm, “We loved working with the team at Taxi on brand, naming, and visual identity.

“We hoped to reflect some of the positive energy, fresh thinking and impact this business and team are going to make for Aotearoa,” says Simon.

Together and Pead also played crucial roles. Bridget Whalley from Together highlighted their broader support for Taxi, “Nicola and Josh came to us looking for a partner to help with their paid media for launch, but Together has gone beyond that, supporting the Taxi business across creative, media, analytics, and marketing technology.

“Our approach is designed to build trust for the Taxi brand – but in a disruptive way, utilising traditional media alongside new-to-market targeting solutions in digital,” says Bridget.

The campaign, featuring the ‘Decline the bank’ headline, was crafted by creative agency Remade and executed across various platforms with the help of Together and TVNZ/Blacksand. The focus was on offering something distinctively beneficial for Kiwi businesses, making it a pivotal move in the local market.
