Auckland will host its first multi-day TEDx (Technology, Entertainment, Design) event on Thursday and Friday (May 5 & 6) at Shed 10 on Queens Wharf. Around local and international speakers will share their ideas and solutions for the world in 2016.
The theme for this year’s conference is Flipside:
- The perspective you get from seeing an old problem in a new way.
- Turning hierarchies on their head and putting ideas ahead of ideology.
- Sidestepping power structures, gender, race and geography.
- Stepping outside your workplace, your country and even your hemisphere to connect with a community of speakers, delegates and partners united by a healthy disrespect for business as usual.
TEDxAuckland licensee/producer Elliott Blade says this year’s event comes after seven earlier TEDxAuckland events and he and his team want to take TEDxAuckland to the next level of experience and engagement: “Think of this year’s TEDxAuckland as an ideas festival, celebrating new ideas, local producers and our city of Auckland,” he says.
“We would like to thank event partners Spark and ATEED and the Panuku Development Auckland. Without them we couldn’t have organised this multi-day TEDx event.
“Shed 10 allows the large innovative TEDxAuckland community and partners to create a unique, memorable fixture on Auckland’s calendar. Our mission at TEDxAuckland is to become one of Asia Pacific’s leading platforms for great ideas, creativity and actionable innovation.”
“Ticket numbers are limited, he says. “An application process will be introduced to ensure the audience is as diverse as the talks.”

About TEDx
The TEDx Programme is designed to help communities, organisations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. TED is a non-profit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world. TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world.
