WELLINGTON, Monday: The Dominion Post is joining forces with Breast Cancer Foundation NZ this week to raise awareness of the foundation’s annual street appeal on Friday and Saturday.

All week the paper will feature a bright pink masthead and the pink ribbon – and 40 cents from every Saturday paper sold this Saturday (12 October) will be donated to support BCFNZ’s mission.

“BCFNZ is the biggest non-government funder of breast cancer research in NZ.”

BCFNZ is the biggest non-government funder of breast cancer research in New Zealand, investing around $1.2 million per year in research and medical grants. Among this is a five-year partnership with Victoria University of Wellington’s Ferrier Institute, aiming to develop a ‘therapeutic vaccine’ for breast cancer.

BCFNZ also provides vital support to people going through breast cancer. It offers free expert advice via phone and online, and funds rehabilitation after surgery, counselling and lymphoedema treatment across NZ.

Its vision is ‘Zero Deaths from Breast Cancer’. “A lot of research and hard work will be required to achieve that, and The Dominion Post is proud to make a contribution,” a spokesperson said.
