AUCKLAND, Today: Thompson Spencer is officially setting up shop in Sydney and Melbourne, marking its first physical expansion into the Australian market after 15 years of global campaign success.

The independent Kiwi agency already works with Aussie clients like Wattyl, DoorDash and Chartered Accountants, and just merged with performance agency Reason to supercharge its full-funnel offering.

Melanie Spencer, Co-CEO of Thompson Spencer says, “Our vision has always been to build one of the greatest modern ad agencies in the world.

“We’ve earned our reputation in New Zealand and proven our impact globally. Now, we’re ready to take on the Australian market with the same fearless, future-focused mindset. Setting up a base in Sydney and Melbourne allows us to deliver our bold creative vision directly to Aussie brands.”

Wendy Thompson, Co-Founder of Thompson Spencer adds, “Australia is a dynamic and thriving market and presents an exciting opportunity for us, as well as our Kiwi clients eyeing their own move into the market.

“Our ambition is to help brands dominate, not just participate. We do this by blending creative disruptors, media maestros and AI futurists to deliver bold ideas and real impact, leading advertising innovation across the globe.”

Olivia Thompson will lead the Sydney office, having relocated from NZ where she worked with major brands like Mitre 10, New World and The Warehouse Group.

Madison Trevella heads up the Melbourne base, bringing strong local market insight and working closely with clients like Chartered Accountants.

Olivia Thompson, Business Director, Australia says, “This is a major milestone for Thompson Spencer and I’m excited to have the opportunity to shape the next chapter for us.

“We’ve already built great relationships with Australian brands and having boots on the ground means we can be more hands-on and in tune with the market. We’re here to deliver creative that challenges, strategy that sharpens and media that gets business results.”

The agency started as Socialites, founded by Wendy Thompson, and has since evolved into a creative and media powerhouse with Melanie Spencer joining in 2019.

Since then, Thompson Spencer has snapped up four specialist agencies, spanning video, media, Chinese advertising, and talent management – rebranding under its current name.

With last month’s merger with Reason, the team has grown to 53+ people and is actively hiring to fuel global growth.

The agency’s trophy cabinet includes wins from Campaign Asia and IAB, with Melanie Spencer also picking up an Agency Head Commendation in 2024.
