Try-hard ZB ad a fail?

We have a lot of time for Mike Hosking. He’s smart, witty, quick, hard-working, and often compulsive viewing. But his presentation of this treacly, gloomy, faux-sincere, try-hard new ad for Newstalk ZB – the station’s first TVC for 10 years – is awful.

Dallas Gurney, NZME general manager talk, certainly sees it differently: He says the advertisement is reflective of the station’s positioning.

“We have a world-class line up of talent on Newstalk ZB,” he said. “In addition to being entertaining, Newstalk ZB is thought provoking and challenging. This ad reflects what the brand is and I’m very happy with how the advert has come together.”

As usual, Hosking has the final word: “We never sleep, because your conversations never do. So if you want to be in the know, join us in the now.”
