Vietnamese laugh at ‘racist’ BK post

AUCKLAND, Today: Burger King NZ and its agency VMLY&R have removed a short Instagram video ad from their social media feed after sensationalist global media labelled it “racist”.

The 8sec ad, which depicts people struggling to eat a Vietnamese sweet chilli tendercrisp burger using oversized chopsticks, has been attracting debate on social media since last week.

Some have labelled it insensitive and stereotypical, while others, including Vietnamese users, defend the ad’s sense of humour and say they don’t find it offensive.

Not surprisingly, Burger King has not responded to the claims.
