When key employees resign

AUCKLAND, Today: The Comms Council has pulled in a prominent NZ-based employment lawyer to help answer a question that has many scratching their heads – what to do when prominent employees leave.

“When key agency employees resign, they walk out the door with more than a cardboard box,” says Wynn Williams Auckland employment partner Anthony Drake, who’s worked with the NZ  advertising and communications industry for over 20 years.

“They also leave with detailed knowledge of processes, contacts, future plans and clients – or even your existing employees,” Drake says.

“Competition from ex-staff is serious issue, and businesses are increasingly resorting to litigation to prevent disruptive fallout and consequential challenges.

“That’s why protecting your agency’s secrets, IP, IT and confidential information is essential.”

“Competition from ex-staff is a serious issue, and businesses are resorting to litigation to prevent disruptive fallout.”

This agency-focused seminar will delve into the issue of unfair competition from ex-staff, the rights of employers and the duties of departing employees.

It aims to shed light on drafting clauses for employment agreements, important updates regarding freelancers and how to smoothly and successfully transition employees out of your agency – without having to resort to litigation.

Comms Council ceo Paul Head said: Anthony Drake is a trusted advisor to many; his knowledge and presentation style will ensure the information you receive is relevant, valuable and applicable to your business.”
