Shortening NZ’s big-city place names is a perpetual challenge for sub-editors. Auckland and Christchurch shorten quite nicely to Ak and Chch – but Auk doesn’t spin any wheels. Ditto Wtn, Wgtn, and Welly.
But Dunners? The ugliest yet!
