Y&R New Zealand has announced the appointment of Kim Pick as executive creative director, replacing Tim Huse, who is departing for Los Angeles.
Pick joins Y&R from Colenso BBDO. Her arrival comes after a series of new business wins for the agency including Countdown, Goodman Fielder and GO Healthy Australasia.
Kim Pick will be working alongside managing director Fleur Head in Wellington, and ECD Tom Paine in Auckland, with a focus on brand building, integrated and behaviour change campaigns for Wellington and public sector clients.
Y&R Australasia CCO (and NZ ceo) Josh Moore said,“Tim has been a fantastic addition to our team over the last 18 months and when we were faced with his semi-retirement to LA we were very nervous about whether we could find a creative leader with the skills to match his contribution.
“But in Kim we have exactly that – she’s driven, inspiring and has a great sense of humour, we couldn’t be happier that she’s decided to join us.”
Fleur Head said, “Kim is the perfect fit for our current clients and aspirations in the Wellington market. She’s incredibly collaborative, highly strategic and thinks beyond advertising solutions. I’m really looking forward to partnering with her.”
“I’m immensely proud to have been a part of the team at Colenso BBDO for the past few years, but I’m ready to take on a new challenge.”
With over 20 years of global advertising experience on some of the world’s biggest brands, Pick has worked at leading agencies in Australia, Singapore, London, New York and New Zealand.
She was ECD of RAPP New York until 2014, when she returned to the New Zealand industry, joining creative partner and husband Wayne Pick at Colenso BBDO. She has won over 100 creative and effectiveness awards for her ideas and craft in brand, digital, social, experiential and direct.
In addition to the work, she is passionate about the industry and talent development. A former chairman of Australia’s AWARD School and member of NZ Marketing Association Digital Advisory panel, she is currently on the NZ Comms Council Diversity & Inclusiveness Council, looking at ways to foster a more diverse industry.
A mentor and university guest lecturer, she speaks on strategic and creative thinking, as well as digital and advertising craft and creativity.
“I’m immensely proud to have been a part of the team at Colenso BBDO for the past few years, but I’m ready to take on a new challenge, and excited to be stepping into the ECD role at Y&R, which has been building such incredible momentum,” Pick said.
“I’m really looking forward to working alongside Fleur, Josh, Jono, Tom and the rest of the team at Y&R. I love creating work that can make a difference to our society, and work that works. I can’t wait to get started.”
